At Gulliver, we’re always looking for innovative ways to celebrate the values that define our community. This year, Digital Design 2 student Emi Compel ’30 has brought a creative vision to life by designing a series of pin buttons that honor the core values of Nurture, Explore, Pioneer, and Empower.
These buttons are part of the Core Values Button Initiative, a program aimed at recognizing students who exemplify these important values in their everyday actions. Whether it’s a student helping others navigate a difficult group project (Empower) or standing up for kindness and inclusivity (Nurture), the buttons serve as a tangible way to acknowledge students for demonstrating what it means to be part of the Gulliver’s community.
The initiative invites faculty to nominate students each quarter by filling out Core Value tickets, which are then presented to the student along with the corresponding pin button. These buttons serve as a reminder of the positive impact of living by Gulliver’s core values. Faculty members are also included in the initiative, with buttons awarded to teachers during quarterly faculty meetings as a way to recognize their contributions to the school community.
The program has already sparked excitement among students, with many eager to earn a button and be recognized for their efforts to embody Gulliver’s values. Faculty members have expressed their support, looking forward to acknowledging students’ efforts in a fun and meaningful way.
Emi’s thoughtful designs now serve as a reminder of how the Gulliver’s community continually nurtures, explores, pioneers, and empowers each other in daily life.
