Our Model UN students recently showcased their exceptional skills and teamwork at two prestigious conferences: the Yale Model UN (YMUN) and the University of Miami Model UN Conference. At YMUN, they earned the title of Outstanding Small Delegation, excelling in a variety of committee settings that required distinct skill sets and strategic thinking. Meanwhile, at the University of Miami conference, in addition to individual awards, our team was recognized with the Outstanding Large Delegation title, further demonstrating their dedication and expertise in the field.
A group of students was assigned to General Assemblies or Regional Bodies, larger committees where they represented entire countries rather than playing individual characters. These committees placed a strong emphasis on public speaking and coalition-building, skills that are crucial for navigating the complexities of international diplomacy. Among this group, one student earned the prestigious title of Outstanding Delegate, while three others received Honorable Mentions for their exceptional performances.
Other students were placed in Specialized or Crisis Committees, which were more intimate in size and focused on problem-solving and dynamic role-playing. In these committees, delegates assumed the roles of specific characters and were tasked with addressing a series of evolving challenges. Crisis Committees, in particular, introduced an additional layer of strategy, with students utilizing “back rooms” to send notes to off-stage characters, shaping the direction of the committee’s decisions and announcements. At YMUN, from this group, two students were named Best Delegate, and one earned an Honorable Mention for their outstanding contributions.
Each committee provided a unique experience, and our students’ ability to adapt and excel in these varied settings reflects their dedication, skill, and hard work throughout the conference.
